Using PSM 9.3.4g and Excel 2003, every time I paste in a PSM reference, Excel freezes. Thus, the DDE link to Excel doesn't seem to work at all in this version of PSM.

Example data:

=PSM|'WJH SB-239-23116\To Gift Out\ALE'!'Symbol'

Nothing has changed in the DDE plugin in a while, so it should work. In any case, if it's Excel that is freezing, I'm not sure how I can help you. I no longer have Excel 2003 to test with, but I just re-tested it here with Excel 2007 and it appears to be working as expected.

Are PSM's DDE functions in a dll? I.e., PSMDDE.dll? Would it be practical for me to try an earlier version of the dll?

PS: I'm running Win7 64bit. Excel 2003 doesn't have a problem with paste-links from, e.g. Word 2003.

Ok, I just replaced 9.3.4's PSMDDE.dll with 7.0.1g's PSMDDE.DLL. After restarting PMS, drag and drop to Excel 2003 is now working fine.

So, what do you supposed is going on here? Is there anyway to interpret this than to say that the latest PSMDDE.dll, while compatible with Excel 2007, seems incompatible with Excel 2003?

You could certainly try that, but as I said, the DDE support hasn't changed in PSM in a long time. But if it works, it works.

I don't know if you can say that, because I'm sure we must have other customers using it with Excel 2003 successfully. But if it works for you, then that's great. The only change made when Office 2007 came out was to change a couple of the keywords, because Excel 2007 made a couple of the fields we use into reserved words, so we could no longer use those in an expression. However this change was made about 4-5 years ago, when Excel 2007 came out, so if you're only having this problem now, I have to wonder which version of PSM you were running before?

Honestly, I only use this feature occasionally...as in once every few years. My oldest license info for PMS that I have on file is from 2003 for version 5.1.9. But I was already on my 4th license then...so my first license would have been, what? 1999?

Anyway, I just installed 9.3.5 and I see that the install program overwrote the old PSMDDE.dll with the current version: 1.0.67.63. And now, drag and drop into Excel 2003 is working again. Maybe this was just all operator error on my part.
