I've been keeping month-end snapshots of my PSM file since the beginning of the year. Not always quite accurate, but close. However, if I want to open one, I have to make sure updates and auto-save are off. I'm wondering if it would be possible to do one of the following:
1) Have the ability to turn these and possibly other options on/off on the open dialog
2) Have the settings travel with the .. um, database? the file at any rate.

Of course to really reach <g>, it would be nice to be able to open more than one at a time!

There is an option to turn off automatic updates for each account tab, under the Advanced tab in the account tab properties. There is no setting to turn it off across the entire file.

Ah, I probably used the wrong terminology. My specific concerns are with turning off Auto-save portfolio file every x minutes, Auto-save portfolio on exit, under the general options in preferences, and enable/disable automatic quote updates in the Quote Updates of Preferences (which also has icons on the top tool bar.) All the account tabs remain pretty much unchanged from file to file. By file, I'm referring to the PSM_Gold.stkx file that I open, or in the case of month-end saves, 2011_08PSM_Gold.stkx -- the 'stkx' files.

Ok, I understand now. However, I don't think it would be appropriate to add those options on a file-by-file basis. Disabling automatic quote updates is already available for each account tab, and if you don't want the file itself to be accidentally overwritten, I would recommend changing the file properties to read-only from the file manager.
