Once a stock/bond/etc. is sold, I mark them inactive by selecting the Mark Inactive action from a right-click menu, in order to retain history. If I want to buy it again, or check something from the Active Window, I can select View>Inactive. But to make it Active again, I need to go to the Account drop down menu. This seems somewhat hidden (it's not the account, it's a specific ticker.) Would it be possible to put 'Mark Active' in the right-click menu for a ticker?

The right-click menu is really for the most frequently-used items. Based on the feedback over the years, not many people use Mark Active, so we didn't want to waste space by adding it under the right-click menu. But if enough people request it, of course it is possible to add it.

Another way to keep track of closed positions . . .

Carla and I used to do this also but then created something that was more robust for our use:

First, we created a new Account Tab named "BuyBack". In this tab, we added folders such as "Watch Closely", "Stocks", "ETF's/ETN's", and whatever else is important to us at the time.

Second, in each of our active accounts (each one has it's own Account Tab) we added a folder named "Sold". Within this folder, we added sub-folders for "Stocks", "ETF's/ETN's", etc.

Now, when we close a position, we decide if it's something we would want to buy back at a later date or not.

If it is, we add a letter "code" to the Ticker Name field which tells us the account it was previously held in. Then we move the ticker into the appropriate folder in the "BuyBack" tab.

If we won't be buying it back, we move it into the appropriate sub-folder in the Sold folder.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion Don. What I like about simply marking it inactive is that I can find the transactions in the tx register without doing anything special. It's only if I either buy it again, or need to do something else with it from the Active page, that I mark it active again. I do use a fair number of both folders and tabs -- it fills the page full screen with tabs at this point (I'll probably remove a couple, they're temporary at this point). What I'll probably do at the end of this year is create a year-end archive copy, then clean out some of the older records. Probably two copies, or even 3 (one on gold CD).

You're welcome Randy. I'll have to say that using the Inactive Ticker flag is definitely easier to use

Another thought -- could Mark Active be an F-key function? I don't see (with a quick look) that many are assigned.

This is just one of those functions that is used so infrequently, that I can't imagine it being permanently assigned to an accelerator such as an F-key.

I'm just sorry the user interface (menus, key assignments) is not customizable. The software was written before all that stuff became mainstream, and it would be a very large effort to change that, which is not something we can afford right now.
