@immaus Exactly. Same problem. I want to be able to do all these things with the software as well. Once we can optionally use historical data in the transaction calculations we will have the underpinnings to do everything you mention. We would probably do it in the form of a report.

Then it opens up all kinds of interesting possibilities such as comparing portfolio performance against a benchmark over time in the form of a chart.

The difficulty with some of these larger projects, such as this one, is that we're just two guys. That's the entire company, so between all the other things we do such as customer support, bug fixes, smaller new features, marketing some of these larger features take much longer than we would like.

I'd like nothing more than to be able to promise we could get this built in the release after next, but I just don't know at this point when it'll get done. Next few releases maybe? We'll keep you all posted.

Yermo,

Good morning, still on the annual performance measure.

I am not really a computer guy I am an investor guy, but I think I found a great path for what I think can be the solution.

The whole thing comes from an excel add-in created by a guy named Randy Harmelink This add-in contains a number of user defined functions for EXCEL that can allow data to be extracted and/or retrieved from the web and placed directly into EXCEL cells or ranges.

The whole documentation and explanation in well stored in yahoo group, which you have to join to know a little more about the syntaxes, etc….

The web location for the group is described below

http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/smf_addin/

The "Files" area for the group contains the add-in, documentation on its functions, and a number of templates that have examples of how the various functions can be used. The "Links" area of the group has a number of tips and FAQ. I attached The add in itself and an example of the portfolio comparison with the S&P that I found (is not the one that I like but is the beginning).

You can have a little more information on the issue on http://www.oldschoolvalue.com/investment-tools/investme... where you can find even an spreadsheet example for stock performance that I email you
But the best one is on the yahoo group
Best regards

Sergio

Thanks for the good info!

Sorry I didn't have a chance to get back to you. I was out of the office for the last week.

We're finishing up a release of PSM that we hope to get out the door on Monday that will include some other improvements and support for the new options format.

Once that's done I'm going to talk to Anatoly about when we can implement the changes to the transaction register code so we can do these kinds of calculations much more easily and set us up to be able to do benchmark comparisons more easily.

It's on the development plan but we don't have an ETA yet. I'm hoping we'll have it built later on this year.

One feature I use every so often is to select a date from the past and the display shows data from that date instead of from today.

I'm talking about a historical feature I use inside of Quicken.

I select a date from the past and then the entire display of all holdings information changes to that specific date, on-screen, just as if the selected date was today's date.

Yea, this is exactly the kind of feature (along with alot of additional reporting) that we want to add to PSM. It's being discussed pretty frequently.

Yermo,

I have been using personal Stock Monitor for about a year and it is one of the best programs out there. The ability to graph historical performance and to compare this to benchmarks would really make the program stand head and shoulders above the competition. Have you been getting closer to implementing this feature?
Thanks,
Arjan

Unfortunately with the downturn we've had to focus in other areas. I don't know when that will get implemented.

I would really like to see it as well. It's been my personal #1 request.
