I can run PSM under Admin no problem however when logged on as LUA PSM doesn't show up in START>PROGRAMS.

Tried uninstalling & reinstalling to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users ... no luck there.

How to install so PSM can run under a USER ACCOUNT ... please help ... thank you.

Also,,, does PSM have Admin Rights?

Cheers
Tony

Which version are you trying to install?

The PSM installer needs admin rights for the installation, and must therefore be installed from an admin account.

However, in recent versions there is an option whether to install it for all users or only for the current user. If you install it for all users then it will show up under LUAs as well.

Is there a workaround to run PSM in a User Account?

How about installing under Admin then copying the exe file to the user folder. I tried that & got it working but something happened ... then it didn't work. v. 8.2.4 . I was going to upgrade but the feature I'm looking for isn't there yet ..

... A custom column to calculate %Change by selected date, in Active Securities (not a report). I set Price of each security for a particular date by hand but the work entering Price data for a given date is huge for additional columns. In my sectors since 2 Dec there have been 2 market turns, the last was yesterday so tracking these minor turns would be trivial with the feature built into PSM & very useful too. . you could do in seconds what takes hours by hand. Tracking %Change this way has huge benefits esp using the sorting button to rank them.

You have to see it working to see the full benefit. I think PSM members would love it. Would you like me to send you the file so you can look at it yourself, Anatoly?

I think once you see it you'll agree

As indicated in our software release notes, support for limited user accounts was added in PSM 8.6. Earlier versions will not work properly in this scenario.

Change from selected date would require an expression to access the price value from the historical database. This is not yet available, but is definitely on our to-do list.

Anatoly, I understand.

I'd pay a premium for %Change from Selected Date.

How much work would it involve?

@TonyB: are you using PSM professionally or is it just in an individual investor capacity?

Adding these kinds of features is something we /definitely/ want to do, somewhat urgently. However, it's a fair amount of work and may take us another few releases to put together (although I would very much like to have these features sooner, to tell you the truth).

Individual I'm afraid. Nobody else I'm aware of has this feature either except maybe Bill Cara on his monthly subscription site but so complex you get lost. Thing about PSM it does what you want simply, that's the beauty of it.

To illustrate to some degree if you go to http://finviz.com/ & click on SCREENER then click on PERFORMANCE, here's an example. FINVIZ gives you six SORTABLE %Change columns, quite nice, but no Date Selector. Weekly, monthly, yearly etc columns are good,

but ... markets turn on SPECIFIC DATES so these dates become important & tracking multiple TURNING POINT %Changes is much higher quality information as I'm sure you'd agree than Weekly & Monthly...

Yermo, this is a big feature & once people got to using it which they would because it's so easy, they'd wonder how they got along without it. I urge you to prioritize it for the benefit of DTLink & users alike.

Trust me. This is high on the priority list for us. It's just that it's a surprisingly large amount of work between everything else we have to do.

There are a bunch of portfolio performance over time kinds of things that we want to implement. They are coming, but I don't know how long it's going to take us to implement them all. But we'll work on it.

Thanks Yermo.

Running as LUA, PSM is stranded but I switch to it primarily to review %Changes from 2Dec2009 & Oct2008 custom columns for an instant read on several pages of tickers.

Look forward to this superb feature arriving SOON ...

All the best

It /will/ happen, but I just don't know exactly when. This whole options symbology change threw us for quite a loop and has taken a lot more time than we had hoped it would

It's just two of us here, and there's a limit to how much we can get done how quickly.

Anatoly wrote /all/ the desktop products largely from scratch in VC++. The SDK, the scripting system, the charts, the alerting system, the portfolio calculations, the entire plugin system, the reports, collabinvest client side, etc. etc. etc. It's crazy how much code has been written. And then there's all the customer support, billing, accounting ...

I wrote /all/ of our server side stuff including collabinvest, this forum, all our websites, ecommerce, chat system, etc. and I also manage our infrastructure ( got a rack of servers here). Then there's all the business development, business management, marketing, relationship management ...

I'm just trying to frame expectations. We get a lot done, but we do have alot of customers each seemingly with their own set of requests.

And then there's what the brokerages want ... as I prep for a conference call where we're trying to get another one on board.

Maybe at some point we'll have to explore growing this thing beyond a two person operation. Unfortunately, that would probably involve VC or being acquired.

A, can you confirm the latest version of PSM does NOT need Admin Privileges when installed for All Users?

Thanks

You only need admin privileges to install, as you would with most software. After that, it will run without privileges in a LUA.

Yermo & Anatoly

I have an idea re %Change by Date. Instead of all that programming this would be easy .. enable PRICE data so it can be copied to a new column & paste 'values only'. That's it.

I'm trying Google Spreadsheets to do this but updating is abysmal, completely unworkable, most of the time #N/A blocks. When it works it's superb. Looks like today was another pivot point.

to accomplish date based performance tracking without access to historical data can be done, from today forward, by allowing the Price column data to be copied to a new custom column which could then be used in the future to calculate %Change. Not the perfect solution but better than nothing. Right now this cannot be done with PSM. Successive columns of Price data could be copied each day/regularly & saved. When a market pivot is identified a new custom column can be used to calculate %Change from current price.

i set up a public share Google Spreadsheet with this example model please see here

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AnkXz83N3VGxdFh...

some people can access it, others cannot. If you have a Google account you probably can.

using three dates, %Oct 2008, %2Dec2009 & %5Feb2010 yielding %Changes from their respective dates.

if you could simply copy PSM Price column data to a new column this feature could be done without extensive programming.
