I tried these, and the only one that doesn't get a quote here is the QCT option. That may happen if it doesn't follow the standard expiration date rule. What is the Yahoo ticker for this option?

If you have PSM 9.1.4 installed, you should confirm that you have the Quote Server Support 1.3.48.22 plugin installed under Options->Preferences->Plugins. Also, I'm assuming that you have Internet Explorer configured to access the Internet on this machine?

I'm seeing the same behaviour as gawler51. Also, if the option was posted prior to 9.1.4 the expiry day is not added in.

Options are S&P and DOW:
ROQ Dec 2010 Put 97
BQD Dec 2010 Put 94

The Ticker is QCOM. I have 9.1.4 installed and I checked and have Quote Server Support 1.3.48.22 also. I am not using IE as I use Firefox which has always worked perfectly well in the past, as indeed it does now since I am using it to both communicate with you and to access quotes from Yahoo. I am still getting quotes for stocks - it is only the options which are the problem.

@danmcco, not sure what you mean by the second sentence, but for index options that have non-standard expiration dates, you must specify them in the ticker symbol as mentioned earlier in this thread. In any case, are those valid options listed on Yahoo? You can check this on the Yahoo Finance web site. If you can find the correct Yahoo ticker, please let me know what it is so I can make sure that our software is generating it correctly.

@gawler51, same problem, it appears that the QCT option you specified is not listed on the Yahoo option chain for QCOM (http://finance.yahoo.com/q/op?s=QCOM&m=2010-03). Keep in mind that although these may be valid option tickers, if they are not listed on Yahoo, you will not be able to get quotes for them.

@gawler51, I forgot to mention that regardless what browser you use, IE must be configured properly on your system because PSM uses some IE network access libraries for things such as pulling the options quotes and news headlines.

Assuming the ticker symbols are available in Yahoo, if you contact me in email (support@personalstockmonitor.com) I can also send you debugging versions of the Yahoo plugin, which would help us figure out where the problem is.

My apologies - QCT is in fact CTRP.
I tried changing my default browser to IE on my Desktop machine and I'm afraid it still doesn't work. I will follow your suggestion re the email.

It doesn't look like theres a March put option for CTRP at 32, but there is one at 32.5 (see http://finance.yahoo.com/q/op?s=CTRP&m=2010-03). The correct ticker to use for PSM would be QCT Mar 2010 Put 32.5, and I have confirmed that it works here.

True enough; but this is what you get (32) if you use the option chains facility in PSM. I tried posting it as 32.5 and it still doesn't work.

From Yahoo:
SPY Dec 2010 97.000 put(OPR: SWG101218P00097000)
Last Trade: 6.00
Trade Time: 11:04am ET
Change: 0.00 (0.00%)
Prev Close: 6.00
Open: 6.00
Bid: 6.13
Ask: 6.23
Day's Range: 6.00 - 6.00
Contract Range: 4.00 - 6.93
Volume: 10
Open Interest: 44,885
Strike: 97.00
Expire Date: 17-Dec-10

I tried both:
ROQ DEC 18 2010 PUT 97
ROQ DEC 17 2010 PUT 97

but what worked is:
ROQ DEC 31 2010 PUT 97

ROQ is not the correct root. In fact Yahoo tells you what the correct ticker is: SWG101218P00097000

This means that SWG is the correct root. So for PSM you can use

SWG Dec 2010 Put 97

or

SWG Dec 18 2010 Put 97

@danmcco, by the way I did find a bug that cuts off the .5 from options when you use the built-in Yahoo option chain support. I already sent an update to gawler51 to test in advance of the next release. If you want the same, let me know in email and I'll send it to you.

BTW, the next release will also have support for native Yahoo tickers, so you will be able to use SWG101218P00097000 directly.

Actually there are two sets:
94.00 SWG101218P00094000 5.47 0.00 5.13 5.32 1 28
94.00 ROQ101231P00094000 4.70 0.00 5.28 5.45 0 1,33

One is Euro style and one is American style.

I was just pointing out the correct ticker for the one you mentioned.

Yes, you could use ROQ if that's the correct option, but it's not the same one you were looking at. If you use that ROQ option, then yes, you have to specify the correct expiration day since it does not follow the standard rule.
