What's new in Personal Stock Monitor 9.1?
Personal Stock Monitor 9.1 includes two major new features in addition
to a number of smaller ones and some bug fixes. The two biggest
changes are:
1. support for the new Options Symbology Changes
2. improved fixed decimal rounding algorithm in holdings calculations.
----------------------
New Options Symbology Format
As many of you who are options traders are already aware, February 12,
2010 is the mandatory cut-over date for using explicit data elements
in the options symbols for OPRA. This means that on or before that date,
most data providers will be changing how they display their options
symbols as well.
Personal Stock Monitor has been updated to handle these upcoming
changes. Because the internal options symbols for each data provider
are different, we have come up with a neutral option symbol format
that will be converted internally by the software for each data
provider as necessary. The format will be as follows:
[root ticker] [month] [day - optional] [year] [put/call] [strike]
During this first part of the transition, the root ticker will not
changes from the original option root. So for example, you will be
able to enter a call option on MSFT as:
MSQ Feb 2010 Call 30
As indicated above, the root ticker stays the same. Also, since the
day is optional, PSM always recalculates the options expiration date
and displays it as part of the ticker symbol. So when entering the
option as above, PSM will change it to display
MSQ Feb 20 2010 Call 30
This new options symbology is supported starting with this release
for the TD AMERITRADE, DTN IQ, and Yahoo data services. ***
If you have any questions about the new options format and the
industry transition, please post your questions to the users forum:

Options Symbology and the Data Services
This past Monday, January 25, 2010, Yahoo Finance launched their new
options ticker format. However it seems that the transition was not
completed, because the "download data" links on their site, which
used to work for options and also used by Personal Stock Monitor to
retrieve data, no longer work for options either on their web site or
in the software. While we were hoping they would correct this quickly,
based on the reply we received when we reported the problem, it may
not be corrected for a while. So unfortunately no recent version of
Personal Stock Monitor, including this one, will retrieve options
quotes from Yahoo.
We are already looking for a workaround for this problem that will
allow our customers to retrieve options quotes from Yahoo again, and
hope to have a solution available within 1-2 weeks. In the meanwhile,
for customers who require options quotes immediately, we recommend
signing up for a TD AMERITRADE account.
As of Feb 1st, 2010, TD AMERITRADE and DTN IQFeed will have transitioned
their servers to use their new options ticker formats. PSM 9.1 has
support for the new options ticker formats, and is therefore required
in order to get options quotes with these feeds.

Fixed Decimal Support
In order to improve accuracy of all portfolio calculations, all
financial data and transaction register calculations now use a system
called "fixed decimal", which eliminates tiny rounding errors that may
occur during some calculations, often a small fraction of a penny.
This is most visible with customers who have a large number of small
transactions on a single ticker, particularly long series of dividends
or dividend reinvestments.
Because the new algorithm is more accurate, it's possible that
positions in your portfolio will appear in the new version with a
fractional share position. This typically happens with closed mutual
fund positions. The software looks for this case and will prompt you
whether or not you want it to automatically enter an adjustment transaction.
If you have any questions about the fixed decimal system or its effects,
please contact us through the users forum:

Summary of New Features
. Added support for new option ticker format support for TD AMERITRADE,
DTN IQFeed, and Yahoo. Please see User's Guide for details.
. Added option to display color cell borders when the tick changes on
Price, Bid, Ask fields.
. Added option chain support for DTN IQFeed.
. Improved reporting of email errors during alert notifications, etc.
. Added API BkColor attribute to Ticker objects in the script API, to
allow setting the row background color.
. Bundled several standard extensions with the application, so there is
no need to download them manually. See Tools->Extensions for more info.
. Added consolidated positions report, consolidated summary report, and
consolidated capital gains reports are now automatically installed.
. Added totals for commissions and fees in Transaction Register tab, by
customer request.
. Screener plugin for Yahoo has been updated with new option ticker
format support.
. Most internal data fields have been changed to a fixed decimal type,
to improve the accuracy of portfolio calculations.
. Many scripting APIs now return a Currency type instead of Double where
appropriate. In general this should not affect scripts since most
scripting languages deal with this automatically, but if you have a
custom script that depends on the return type being a Double, you will
need to change it.
. The installer has been rewritten using a more modern installer
compiler, NSIS.
. Active Alerts window now follows folder zoom selection.
. Added unzoom to right click menu when zoomed into a folder.
----------
Bug Fixes:
. Alerts on Total lines not appearing in Active Alerts window.
. Annotations copied into temporary tickers that are not in the current
portfolio.
. Y Value and indicator values in chart tooltip do not have enough
decimal places.
. Clicking in alert list window failed to select ticker if it is in a
closed folder. Now the alert list plugin opens the folder before
selecting the ticker.
. History database not saving data for tickers with an asterisk in them,
notably Canadian mutual funds.
. History database not being updated with current prices at market
close.
. Problem with creating email alert actions.
. Yahoo ticker symbol search.
. Fix for Yahoo historical data downloading for mutual funds.
For more information please see the release notes.

Custom Development
Did you know that Personal Stock Monitor is a development platform with
an API that lets developers customize it? Several customers have already
written small extensions for their own use.
However, you may not know that DTLink does custom development.
If your organization has needs not currently addressed by the
software, you can contract us to build it for you. We are extremely
well versed in all aspects of Windows Visual C++ software development,
as well as internet communications protocols such as XMPP in addition
to web application software.
Examples might include expanded capital gains reports, new indicators,
new data fields, new data sources, expanded alerts, adding a new
brokerage, integrating your website or expanding CollabInvest(sm) to
deliver interactive training.
We also have the ability to completely customize, rebrand and private
label the desktop software as well as CollabInvest(sm) for your
brokerage, training company, website business or money management
firm.
